Some people say that there is no right or wrong way to pray. That’s partly true, but God just wants us to be honest with him. Most of all he wants a relationship with us. We don’t need flowery language or church jargon. We just need to talk to God in our own words, that’s what is best.
We all need to learn how to pray. Even Jesus’ disciples knew that they needed to learn how to pray. That is why one day they asked him. This is where we get the Lord’s prayer. We recite this all the time, and the saddest part, not many people actually really know what it means, let alone what they are praying for.
“Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen.”
This is how Jesus tells the disciples how to pray. Did you notice? Half of the prayer is about asking God for His will to be done in your life today. Read that one again. Half of the prayer is about asking God for His will to be done in your life today. Whoa.
I think most of the time, when I pray, I am praying for my own will. Like safety, help for the day, improved relationships, etc. I’m not saying that God may not want those things for me, but I am saying that I should approach prayer asking God for His will, not my own. We need to approach prayer asking for God’s will, not our own.
Think about it today… maybe some changes will occur in your life that you never expected could happen. Putting our trust in God and trust in our relationship with Him is His deepest desire, I want it to be mine also.
